I decided to try using the mini-mailboxes from the Target dollar spot to make Valentine treat boxes for my 3 girls.
I created a simple template for covering the sides, front and back of the boxes with paper. The template fit all 3 of my mailboxes – but I don’t know if the mailboxes differ from Target to Target. But – Maybe its worth a try?
This first template has the pattern for cutting the whole and slit to fit the paper around the mailbox flag. Place it on the back side of a 4″ by 12″ piece of paper, lining up the bottom edges, then trace and cut out the hole and slit. (this is so there are no pencil lines on the front). The other two shapes are the box ends. You can print a PDF of the template in the proper size HERE.
This next template is a sheet of box ends – in case you just want to print them on to your cardstock. You can print a PDF of this template HERE.
I chose to embellish them with the girls’ first initial using the Zoophabet clear set from Penny Black. I also used some Shimmery BoBunny Valentine Patterned paper. The box sides are in a stripe, the back in a heart pattern and the front in brown cardstock.
I stamped my images in Memento Rich Cocoa ink, colored them with Copic Markers and cut them out with Nestibility circle dies. I also colored and cut out a little butterfly from the same stamp set to decorate the mailbox flag. The mattes are also cut out with Nestibility (scalloped) dies from pink cardstock.
To adhere the paper around the box, I applied the adhesive to the back of the paper and slipped the hole around the mailbox flag. Then just slide the paper down until it fits around the base of the flag. Straighten the paper so it is square with the front and back of the mailbox and adhere it around the box.
Then adhere the front and back panels and add your embellishments.
I added a stamped image to the flag, but you could just leave it as is – or just add a square of patterned paper.
All I need now is some treats to put inside.
I love this little alphabet set. When I first saw it – I wanted to make name frames for the girl’s rooms. Still on the “to-do” list but I’m hoping to have them done by Easter!.

I have always been a fan of these american mailboxes and said that I wanted to have one also the day I moved. That was 7 years ago, and unfortunately there was already a letterbox hanging on a place where I couldn’t see it. I wanted one before the house, but the postman doesn’t want it at that place. So one day … I’m sure I will have such an american letterbox. Only, I don’t know when yet
