I got caught taking down a post! LOL!
A few weeks ago I put up a post about the drawing class I’m taking and shared my first couple drawings. Then I thought maybe people didn’t want drawing posts mixed in with stamping posts – I chickened out and deleted the post.
Well, Etha saw it and she was sweet enough to send me a little comment encouraging me to keep drawing. Wasn’t that so nice?
So… I decided to share my progress so far, just in case it might encourage someone else to take a class.
So, here is my first drawing. Yep – just a ball. Took me 2 hours to draw that ball (have I ever mentioned that I am a very slow crafter?). Since the ball, we have been working on different lighted arrangements of objects to try to learn about shadows, foreshortening, and just how to copy what you actually see.
Here is a practice still life that I did at home last week.
I think I am making progress. I still struggle a little with converting color to grey tones and getting all the values right. I tend to be a little bland and uniform in my shading. But it is getting somewhat better – at least I can sometimes see what is wrong, even though I don’t always know what to do to fix it!
And sometimes its hard to “see” what is actually there. My brain keeps wanting to put in what it thinks should be there. I hope being able to really see things will come with practice.
I’m hoping to take another class in the fall. Eventually, I love to be able to do pen and ink drawings.
So if you have been thinking about an art class – just go for it! It really is fun!
And thanks Etha for the encouragement!

I adore the still life. It’s simply breath taking. Kudos to Etha for encouraging you to post your drawings and kudos to you for having the courage to do so. I’m so glad you did and I look forward to seeing more.
Your still life is amazing!!!
