A Sleigh Ride Slider Tutorial

Its starting to get a little chilly here (especially in the mornings) – and I’ve had this card in my head ever since I got this wicked cute sleigh ride stamp.  So I thought I’d make it up and share a tutorial.

The card front looks like this:

When you pull the slider out of the card pocket, the sleigh travels through the snow (see – I knew that engineering degree would come in handy some day!).

For this card I used the Sleigh Ride cling stamp and the Winter Neighborhood cling stamp (both images are by Eat Cake Graphics).  I also used the Frosty Fun Prism Cardstock collection for the papers.  The images are colored with Copic Markers.

Below are the various card parts and the sizes I used (of course you can change the card size to suit your images).  You will need to cut a slot in the background image, the top layer of the pocket and any mattes you add for your image to slide in.

If you want to hide your cut slot, you will also need a piece to place in front of it.

I also cut my pocket slider 1/8″ smaller than the pocket so it would slide easily.

Assemble your pocket front, matte and background image, leaving the pocket spread open.  Place the tab in the slot at the position where you want your sliding image to start.

Turn the card over and apply adhesive only to the slider tab.  Then lay the pocket slider over the tab – positioning it so it lines up inside the pocket (the way it would be if the slider was closed).

Assem2adhertabFlip the card over.  Apply the snow bank that covers the slot on the bottom and sides only – so the slider tab can move freely.  Then apply foam tape to the top of the tab so you can adhere the sleigh.

assem3sliderPosition the sleigh and adhere it.  Use a small circle punch to create a thumb grip in the pocket.  Then adhere the pocked closed in the back.  You can add a sentiment to the pocket slider.  I used the sentiments from the From Our Home To Yours Clear set.

I also added some frosty Crystal glitter to the images using a Quickie Glue pen.

So that is my little winter project – but I’m not ready  for winter to be here yet.  I still have a ton of garden work to do!
