Flower Fairy picks….

I admit – I’m a total pushover for flowers.  I buy them everywhere, even the fruit market (they have great deals!).  And of course I love to get them as gifts.

I got these two potted begonias at the fruit market and thought I might give them as a little gift to friends for Mother’s day.  I added a few little flower fairies to make them a little more personal.

To make the faries, I chose 3 images from the Flower Fairies cling set, stamped them in Memento ink and colored them with Copic markers.  (Here are the marker colors I used in case inquiring minds want to know).

To hold my little fairies in place, I used floral picks.  You can get them anywhere they have flower arranging stuff – they are green wooden picks with a wire attached at the top.  I wanted my fairies to be able to move and bounce around – so I converted the wire at the top into little “springs”.  You simply wrap the wire tightly around something pretty thin to create a coil.  I used the thick end of my stylus – but you could also use the end of another of the picks.  Make sure you leave some straight wire at the end to adhere the fairy to.  When you are done coiling, just slide the wire off.

I cut out my fairies and then created a matte for them out of dark green cardstock.  The easiest way I’ve found to do this is just temporarily adhere the image to the cardstock and then freehand cut around it.  Here are all my fairy parts.

To assemble the fairies, just adhere the wire to the front of the cardstock matte and adhere the fairy image over the top.  Easy!  Here are close-ups of my fairy friends…

I also wanted a card to go with my gift – so I used a different fairy from the same Flower Fairies cling set.  I also used the mushroom from the Fairy Fauna cling set  (the sentiment is computer generated).  These images are also colored with copics.

I cut out my sentiment and image with a Spellbinders oval die.  The image is matted on the new Spellbinders Labels 11(I think I’m going to use this one a lot!).  The patterned paper is Basic Grey Green at Heart. I created the sky and grass background using this technique (only I didn’t bother masking…shhh, don’t tell…).

It still needed something – so I decided to add flowers.  I don’t have flowers in a lot of colors.  I usually just buy white flowers and color them to match my project with ink, paint, or in this case Copics.  I tried to color each a little differently, and left it a little streaky (on purpose – honest).

If you have flowers – you might need some leaves.  So I colored one flower green and cut it up to make leaves.

So that was today’s project.  Great new stuff coming into the store – I REALLY want to play more.  But my garden is calling me too!

A crisp autumn day…

A post – finally, can you believe it.  Its been a very busy week!

fallscene

I really liked this Fall Scene Cling Stamp by Impression Obsession the first time I saw it.  It just looked like a place I’d love to visit.  I bet there is homemade apple pie in that farm house!

card-partsFor this card, I decided to create even more of a background and a foreground by stamping twice and cutting out the foreground elements.  Here are my 2 pieces colored with Copic markers.  (not a great pic – sorry – I had to take it at night).

I found this super sparkly glitter in a small stamp store while on vacation this summer and couldn’t resist (copper is my favorite metallic).

To apply the glitter, I used Oh So Sticky tape.  I just put the tape all around the image and then cut it out with a craft knife (saved me from measuring – yep – I’m lazy.  I’d rather spend my time coloring than anything else.)

This gave me my sparkly matte around the image and the glitter really seems to stick well to the tape.

fallscenecloseThen I mounted the cut image on to top of the background image with foam tape to create more dimension.

One quick tip – if you go around the cut edges of your image with the side of the marker (to color the cut edge) it does not show if you are not so perfect in your cutting.

I used the sketch from Card Positioning Systems to do the background.  The two circles are embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and then inked lightly with Vintage Photo Distress ink and a duster brush.

Here is a picture trying to show the layers.  This is one of those cards that really looks better in person (really… honest….)

The Cuttlebub Challange for this week is a Thanksgiving project.  Think this counts?

Hope everyone has a happy Friday.  (I’m hoping to stamp some more!)

Copic colored lighthouse

lighthousefdHere is the Father’s Day card I made for DH.

Making cards for guys is challenging for me – I sometimes have a hard time choosing an image.

For this Father’s Day, I chose this lighthouse from the Impression Obsession Lighthouse Cling Set.  Life here has been so hectic – I thought this might look peaceful.

lighthousecopicsI stamped the image in Memento Rich Cocoa and colored it with Copics.  Here are the colors I used. (oops… E-31 is upside down!)

coloredimageI wanted to add a “sky”, so I masked the image with Eclipse Tape (love that stuff!).   The Eclipse tape can be used over and over.  So when I make a mask, I store it in the case with the stamps so I don’t have to cut it out again next time.

inkedbgI used a duster brush with Distress Inkto color the background.  Very easy – just ink the brush, tap off excess and sweep from outside the image, over the cardstock edge towards the center.   I added a little green at the bottom and I also added some Vintage photo around the edges to age it.

The sentiment was made with a Spellbinders Double Ended Tag die .  I just inked the die with Colorbox fluid chalk ink before I cut and embossed so I could get the red edge.  The embossed edge on the card was made with the Cuttlebug Just My Type embossing border set.

I hope everyone had a great Father’s Day and is having a wonderful summer.  We are busy here running vacation bible school.  The girls also have daily swimming lessons (and…ooohhh boy… that water is cold!  You know its bad when a 6 year old admits it!).  Last Friday we also had a WONDERFUL trip to Longwood Gardens.  It was so beautiful and the weather was just perfect!

So I hope to get back to a regular blog schedule soon….
