Winter Wonderland Blog Hop

Its time for another monthly blog hop – and this time we are taking you on a winter wonderland tour.  Don’t worry – its a short tour so you won’t get frostbite!

While you visit, take note of each designer’s name and their special holiday treat in their blog post. Once you finish your garden tour, send an E-mail to custserv@papergardenprojects.com with the list of designers and their holiday treat.

Everyone who sends the correct list of designers and decorations will be entered in a random drawing to win a prize. You need to send an e-mail to the address above; please don’t leave your list as a comment. You have until midnight (EST) on Wednesday, November 24 to send your list.

For the prize? Any 4 digital stamp sets of your choice, including the new Christmas Foliage set.

Here is the garden tour guide list.   Feel free to bring some hot chocolate!

For my frosty project I decided to use the adorable Penny Black stamp” Sweet Snowman” to make a little treat box.  I also want to introduce you to the Purple Onion Treat Label stamps.  I’m so excited to use these for the holidays!!

I started with a 3″x3″ clear box.

I stamped the snowman, colored him with copics and then cut out around him.  Here are the colors I used:

I made the cute label for the front using the  Sweet Treats label set stamped in pink ink.   Over the label I stamped “toffee” from the Home Made Treats set  (it has TONS of different labels for all the treats you can imagine).  Then I cut out the label with a circular die.

Using the patterned paper and cardstock from the Frosted Winter Paper kit, I cut the following pieces:

  1. A strip of striped paper 1″ x12″ as a band around the box.
  2. A square of striped paper 2 7/8″ by 2 7/8″ for the top of the box.
  3. A strip of blue cardstock 1″ wide and 8 1/2″ long.  I scored the strip 1 1/4″ from each end folded it in the center.  This will be the tab the supports the snowman.
  4. A scalloped circle for behing my circular label.
  5. A blue mat to fit behind my cut out snowman.

 Here are all my pieces:

To assemble the box, make a 1″ slit in the middle of the square and feed the folded blue cardstock strip through the slit.  Adhere the bends in the strip the the bottom of the patterned paper square.

Adhere the square to the top of the box.  Adhere the patterned paper strip around the box.  The strip will not quite make it all the way around the box – so position the gap so the Sweet Treat label covers the gap.

The last step is to adhere the image to the tab.  Place the image in front of the tab and the blue mat behind the tab and adhere them in place.  Then just fill the box with the toffee.  Pretty quick and easy!

So there is my winter project.  I’m Cathy and my treat is Apple Crisp.   Hop on over to Amber next to see what treats she has for you….

Fourth Friday Challenge for August 2010

Its another 4th Friday – time for another fun challenge.

This month we’re “Falling for you” – we want to see your Fall and Back-to-School projects.

It can be any type of project:  card, scrap page, alerted item, gift pack – we want to see them all.  The only rule is that you link up a project newly created for this challenge, although feel free to combine it with other current challenges.

Although we would love to see all the art you care to share, everyone will be entered in the prize drawing only once.  One winner will be drawn randomly to win the prize.  You have until midnight (EST) on Saturday, September 4th to link up your project.  Just click the little froggy face at the bottom of this post to add your project.

For your prize this month, I thought we could go on one last summer picnic.  Maybe a birthday picnic with Penny Black?  The prize is this super cute Hedgehog Birthday cling stamp.

For my project, I created a little box to hold my DD’s favorite marking pens in cool colors as a little suprize for the first day of school.

Here is the decorated box back:

Here is the box front with the flap:

If you would like to make your own little marker box, I have a free template available.

It is a PDF file that can be printed on the back of your cardstock.  You can download them through these links:

Download marker box with score lines

Download Marker box without score lines (in case you do not want them printed on your project)

To make the box, print the template and cut on the solid lines, score and fold on the dotted lines.  (the box is sized to hold 5 PaperMate marking pens).  Note that the template is in the bottom right corner.  The cut lines might not print to the edge on your printer.  The bottom and right sides of the paper are the bottom and right sides of the template.

The images on my box are from the Cute Companions Wonderful News stamp set.  (I know…. more mice, I’m really hooked).  I colored the images with copics.  Here are the colors I used:

I decorated my box using some cute paper from the Apple Cider paper pack.  The scalloped edges were made using the scalloped – scallop border punch.  Here are my box pieces before assembly:

I adhered the embellishments on to my box and then folded and adhered the box sides and bottom.  I added a couple buttons tied with Scrappers Floss colored with a Copic marker (YR-14).  I added a Magnetic snap to hold my box closed.

So that is my Fourth Friday project.  If you make a box, I’d love to see it.

Don’t forget to link up your fall projects using cute little froggy there…

Flower Fairy picks….

I admit – I’m a total pushover for flowers.  I buy them everywhere, even the fruit market (they have great deals!).  And of course I love to get them as gifts.

fariesinplant

I got these two potted begonias at the fruit market and thought I might give them as a little gift to friends for Mother’s day.  I added a few little flower fairies to make them a little more personal.

To make the faries, I chose 3 images from the Flower Fairies cling set, stamped them in Memento ink and colored them with Copic markers.  (Here are the marker colors I used in case inquiring minds want to know).

fairy-copics

To hold my little fairies in place, I used floral picks.  You can get them anywhere they have flower arranging stuff – they are green wooden picks with a wire attached at the top.  I wanted my fairies to be able to move and bounce around – so I converted the wire at the top into little “springs”.  You simply wrap the wire tightly around something pretty thin to create a coil.  I used the thick end of my stylus – but you could also use the end of another of the picks.  Make sure you leave some straight wire at the end to adhere the fairy to.  When you are done coiling, just slide the wire off.

springs

I cut out my fairies and then created a matte for them out of dark green cardstock.  The easiest way I’ve found to do this is just temporarily adhere the image to the cardstock and then freehand cut around it.  Here are all my fairy parts.

fairypieces

To assemble the fairies, just adhere the wire to the front of the cardstock matte and adhere the fairy image over the top.  Easy!  Here are close-ups of my fairy friends…

I also wanted a card to go with my gift – so I used a different fairy from the same Flower Fairies cling set.  I also used the mushroom from the Fairy Fauna cling set  (the sentiment is computer generated).  These images are also colored with copics.

fairycard

I cut out my sentiment and image with a Spellbinders oval die.  The image is matted on the new Spellbinders Labels 11(I think I’m going to use this one a lot!).  The patterned paper is Basic Grey Green at Heart. I created the sky and grass background using this technique (only I didn’t bother masking…shhh, don’t tell…).

It still needed something – so I decided to add flowers.  I don’t have flowers in a lot of colors.  I usually just buy white flowers and color them to match my project with ink, paint, or in this case Copics.  I tried to color each a little differently, and left it a little streaky (on purpose – honest).

coloringflowers

If you have flowers – you might need some leaves.  So I colored one flower green and cut it up to make leaves.

So that was today’s project.  Great new stuff coming into the store – I REALLY want to play more.  But my garden is calling me too!
