Copic colored lighthouse

lighthousefdHere is the Father’s Day card I made for DH.

Making cards for guys is challenging for me – I sometimes have a hard time choosing an image.

For this Father’s Day, I chose this lighthouse from the Impression Obsession Lighthouse Cling Set.  Life here has been so hectic – I thought this might look peaceful.

lighthousecopicsI stamped the image in Memento Rich Cocoa and colored it with Copics.  Here are the colors I used. (oops… E-31 is upside down!)

coloredimageI wanted to add a “sky”, so I masked the image with Eclipse Tape (love that stuff!).   The Eclipse tape can be used over and over.  So when I make a mask, I store it in the case with the stamps so I don’t have to cut it out again next time.

inkedbgI used a duster brush with Distress Inkto color the background.  Very easy – just ink the brush, tap off excess and sweep from outside the image, over the cardstock edge towards the center.   I added a little green at the bottom and I also added some Vintage photo around the edges to age it.

The sentiment was made with a Spellbinders Double Ended Tag die .  I just inked the die with Colorbox fluid chalk ink before I cut and embossed so I could get the red edge.  The embossed edge on the card was made with the Cuttlebug Just My Type embossing border set.

I hope everyone had a great Father’s Day and is having a wonderful summer.  We are busy here running vacation bible school.  The girls also have daily swimming lessons (and…ooohhh boy… that water is cold!  You know its bad when a 6 year old admits it!).  Last Friday we also had a WONDERFUL trip to Longwood Gardens.  It was so beautiful and the weather was just perfect!

So I hope to get back to a regular blog schedule soon….

The “Bug-ologist”

bugologist1

Hi all!  I hope everyone is enjoying spring.  Things are growing like crazy here.  I love this time of the year (before the bugs, disease, weeds and drought take their toll on the garden – and the gardeners!)

I made this little card using the Summer Camp Cling set and the Tree on the Hill cling stamp

Stewart the Bug-ologist is checking out a specimen and wondering “What’s Up”.

I stamped the tree in Memento Tuxedo and stamped Stewart on a scrap.

bugologistmarkersI colored the tree with Copics and then used Broken China Distress ink with a duster brush to ink the sky.  I also colored Stewart and cut him out and attached him with foam tape in front of the tree.

Here are the Copic colors :

Card Details:

Well, the slugs ate my baby pumpkin and cucumber seedlings (ugghh.. I hate slugs)  so I’m off to replant some seeds.  Wish me luck!

Vintage look with Impressibilities

rosemomdayI thought I’d share the Mother’s Day card I made (since Mom’s Day is over).

I got to use my new Impressibility Dies!  And I was experimenting with making a vintage fabric kind of look.

The rose image is from the Greeting Farm Fancy Fluers set.  I stamped it with Memento Rich Tuxedo ink and colored it with Copics.

My favorite way to color with Copics is to lay down a light color for a base and than add darker tones for shading.  I then go back and blend the darker tones with the light base color.

rose1For these roses, I used RV-10 for the base and just colored in the entire rose.

rose2Then I added other, darker shades of RV (11, 23 and 34) in the areas where I thought there should be shadows.  Then I just went back and blended with the RV-10 again (here it is pre-blending).

For the background, I cut my Prism cardstock (Crabapple Medium) and embossed it with the Flower Impressibility.

The instructions on the spellbinder website recommend spritzing the cardstock lightly with water before embossing, and I found I got a deeper impression when I followed their directions.  My sandwich was Wizard white plate, Impressibility die, Tan Embossing mat, a few pieces of cardstock for a shim, and the second white plate.

cardpartsI wanted a vintage look, so I inked all my pieces with Vintage Photo Distress ink and a duster brush.  For the embossed background I left the Impressibility die  in place and pounced the inked brush over the background.  (I cleaned the die by blotting it with a baby wipe).

So that was my Mom’s day card.  I hope all of you Moms out there had a great day!
