Homemade Holiday Project 7 (and 8)

Well, much to everyone’s relief this may be my last project from the Homemade Holidays Kit (unless my fiendish little mind dreams something else up – I still have supplies left, so look out).

I decided I wanted to use the chipboard snowflakes included in the kit to make little Christmas Ornaments.  I plan to use them in place of bows on a package, so they become part of the gift too.

Holly Ornament

Supplies from Kit:
  • Holly Sprig Stamp
  • Chipboard snowflake
  • Maraschino and Announcement Cream cardstock scraps
Other Supplies:

webhollyornaminprogress2 Stamp the holly sprigs in a circle with the stems pointing inward. The way I do this is to lay the line template from the kit on a light box and place the cream cardstock over it. Use the lines on the template to position the stamp evenly. If you have a block with grid lines, you can position the stamp on the grid and match the block grid lines with the lines in the template to keep positions even. If you can tell in the photo, I positioned my Holly Sprig stamp on the block so the tip is right on the intersection of the grid lines and a grid line runs through the center. 

 

 

webhollyornaminprogress3Now I know I can position the cross of the grid lines right where I want the tip of the holly.  If you do not have a light box, place the template and cardstock on a window and lightly pencil in the lines. Erase the lines after the stamp ink dries.  You could also use a stamp positioner – but I’m not always so good with those.

 

 

 

webhollyornaminprogress4 Create 2 stamped images (one for each side) and cut out with a punch, die or circle cutter.  When I cut out an image with Nestibility dies, I’ll often tape the die in place with painter’s tape – just in case I might shift something when cutting.  I put the tape on the portion I don’t intend to use.

Color the image with Copics. Matte with a circle or scalloped circle. Put Ruby Slippers Stickles on the berries and set aside to dry.

 

 

webhollyornaminprogress Coat one side of the chipboard snowflake with Cloud White ink and emboss with white embossing powder. Coat it again and emboss it with Holographic powder. This will give it a very white, sparkly finish.

Repeat the inking and embossing on the other side, but hold the snowflake up away from the embossing surface with tweezers (to make sure the first side does not melt and stick).

Use the paper pierce to put a hole in the snowflake for the hanging thread. Adhere the Holly medallion to both sides.

 

 

 

Cardinal Ornament

webbirdornam Supplies from Kit:

  • Charles Cardinal Stamp
  • chipboard snowflake
  • Let it Snow paper
  • Maraschino, Leapfrog and Announcement Cream cardstock scraps

Other Supplies:

Stamp the cardinal twice and color as desired. Cut both out with a punch, die or circle cutter.

Press the colored surface onto the Versamark pad. Coat with Holographic powder and emboss. Matte with a circle or scalloped circle.

webbirdornaminprogress Fold a piece of Let It Snow paper in half, right sides in. Trace the snowflake onto the wrong side of the folded paper. Cut it out just inside the traced line. To help keep the papers together while cutting, you can adhere the papers together outside the traced lines.

Adhere the paper to the chipboard and trim or sand off any excess paper if necessary. Repeat on the other side.

Use the paper pierce to put a hole in the snowflake for the hanging thread.

Adhere the cardinal medallions to the center of the snowflake. Make sure the cardinal is upright from the hanging hole you created.

Easy paper ornnaments

These are super easy paper ornaments that look very pretty on a tree.

They are also very light, which is great if you are trying to hang them on a miniature real tree. (they are hanging on a 2 year old rosemary plant here).

 

 

 

The first step is to punch (or diecut) 6 of the same shapes. Here I used the Marvy Giga scalloped circle. Score down the center of each.

I used Basic Grey double sided paper and gold embossed snowflakes from the Inkadinkado Snowman Sketch clear set on the planer side of the paper. It is easier to score before you emboss.

 

Fold the shapes in half with the right sides inside the fold. I alternated the embossed and the patterned paper.

Then start gluing the wrong sides together to start building your ball.

Note that with the Marvy scalloped circle, the score will go through one bump on one end and between two bumps on the other. So if it seems like the pieces are not fitting together, turn one of the pieces around and it will fit fine.

Once you have 3 pieces glued, adhere a scrap of ribbon into the center for a hanger.

Then finish gluing the rest of your die cut shapes – gluing the last one to the first one to complete the circle.

If you wish, you can glitter or emboss the edges.

And that is it! You’re done!

(in my samples, the other was done with the Marvy Mega Oval punch).
